No matter what you do, you still feel tired
I thought it was sleep deprivation making me tired I used to think that I was tired because I didn’t get enough sleep. After being deprived for many years due to a busy life, children, snoring and shift work, I adapted to the constant heavy dragging that lurked beneath my joyful presence in the world. I tried changing my diet which had some effect but nothing significant or constant. And even when things did change a little, and I could get 8-9 hours uninterrupted, I still felt weary. As a medical professional I considered all the basics of anaemia, sleep apnoea, thyroid disease and even a more sinister cause. My physical body was fine.
I was tired because I wasn’t living a life in alignment with my soul After much soul searching, and noticing myself experiencing feelings of hopelessness, sadness, anger and even fear, I realised about how much of my everyday life I was doing things I didn’t believe in, nor feel aligned to. I was encouraging medication for normal sadness, eating animals for pleasure, and being an over consumer of ‘things’ because it seemed good for the economy. The game changer was when I discovered the term ‘moral injury’ which shares similar symptoms to PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) such as tiredness, depression, and burnout. This term was initiated when soldiers killed other humans, knowing it was morally wrong but did it anyway; for many reasons including defending freedom. It’s heavy stuff, but it connected the dots for me. It was my soul that was tired.
Create a new inner world and feel the difference For me the switch to teaching natural medicine over pharmaceuticals has made all the difference to living a life that feels joyful and aligned. Each day I check in with my head and heart and adjust my thoughts, feelings and actions where necessary to create a new inner world that feels lighter and more energised.
